(I’m catching on a past event!) I like when visitors trickle in during our off season, as we certainly have more time and energy to host. So we were ecstatic when Justin’s sister, Jamie, decided to take an impromptu trip to Alaska in October!
We hadn’t received any significant snowfall nor the true drop in temperatures when she visited mid-October, so her timing was impeccable for winter hiking. She was a little nervous to stay in the yurt all by her lonesome and having to venture out to the outhouse at night, but we assured her the bears were most likely hibernating …
Anyway, we hiked, cooked and hung out at the yurt (as I said in my Currently post, I love that we can spend more time there now in between rentals!). We played games, watched the From Good Homes documentary on the big yurt TV and just caught up in person. As a bonus, Justin & Jamie hit the hot springs after I had left the state for my fall trips.
Jamie’s main goal was to catch the northern lights, but unfortunately it was either too cloudy or they weren’t strong enough during her 5-night stay. So that just means she’ll have to come back again during the spring, fall or winter!!!
It was a great visit! I liked the yurt so much I’ll be scheduling another visit in 2023. Maybe the next time I will see the northern lights. Thanks for being such great hosts!
