Currently living/working in: We’ve taught 4 fifth grade classes and 4 fourth grade classes for the private school at Fenton Ranch and will be finishing up the season with second graders! We still love, love, love teaching environmental education and wrangling kids into the outdoors; it has been an amazing experience, so we’ll see how it plays into our long-term plan.
Current mood: It’s been so unusually rainy in New Mexico; mellow would be the right word.
Currently excited about: This week, we are traveling to South Carolina for an island wedding! Not only that, it’s Justin’s birthday and we’ll be around a group of his friends to celebrate!
Currently not excited about: Waiting on some test results for Justin in which the outcome either way seems undesirable.
Currently worried about: My dad. He’s never really been well for the past 10 (15? 20?) years, but lately he seems really unwell with a crappy prognosis. I took a quick trip to NJ to see him last weekend and it confirmed that he’s a fighter. So we shall see!
Currently proud of: ZOMG our new website. It was a ton of work with a bit of a learning curve, but I am so in love with the result.
Currently amazed by: The hummingbirds around Fenton have been, once again, fantastic. There are still a few lingering on their migration, but the peak has passed. I wish I captured better shots, but this was the best I could do.
Currently thankful for: The end of allergy season. It wasn’t until I moved to New Mexico that I developed seasonal allergies and they seem to only exist for me up here in the Jemez Mountains. I spent my entire summer hiking around the country allergy-free. We return here and bam! People tell me it’s something about rabbitbrush (chamisa) and juniper trees. Ho hum. I’m just glad it only lasted 6 weeks for me. How do you people live with lifelong allergies????
Current confession: Justin has an unhealthy obsession with trucker hats and his collection is absurd. He purposely wears a different one each day to prove to me that he needs them all.
Current guilty pleasure: Pumpkin Spice-flavored coffees!! I am not a regular coffee drinker, but this time of year, I feed an addiction!
Currently reading: Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty. I know there was a lot of hype about this book and miniseries that followed, but I am not cruising through the book as I thought I would be. Maybe it’s because I’m not a parent and don’t have to deal with the cattiness of school drama?
Currently watching on Netflix: We finished Freaks & Geeks (so awesome!), but haven’t started a new series yet. We’ve been watching a few movies here and there, but days are busy, so we crash hard at night.

Ugh sorry to hear about potential crappy test results and that your dad isn’t doing well!
I never had too many allergies in Florida but they definitely rear their ugly head here in Texas sometimes. I do hear that juniper can be a problem.
We had a bad reaction last weekend after doing some hiking on an overgrown trail that went through a utility ROW. Chris had it worse but boy, that was awful. Legs were itchy and splotchy, Chris’ eye swelled up, mine got red. We took Benadryl and a long nap.
Sending good wishes to J and your Dad!
Did I tell you that I developed allergies in college? But it wasn’t until we moved here and they tested, that I found out I was allergic to grasses and weeds (like 20 kinds each). So this is the BEST place for people with allergies–NOT!
Us with adult-onset allergies survive by taking antihistamine and nose meds 365 days/year, then decongestant when we start feeling stuffy. I have to do daily preventive meds because I usually don’t notice I’m stuffy until I have a sinus infection painful enough to make my teeth hurt.
