When we visit Justin’s family in Colorado, it’s almost like we signed up for a triathlon at high altitude. The events include: eating the plethora of scones and soups Justin’s mom preps for our visit, snuggling the 4 cats across 3 households, and keeping up with our pre-teen nephews.
Thanksgiving was special because Justin’s Uncle Pete (the best man in our wedding) drove from NJ for a long-overdue visit to see everyone in Colorado. Justin’s sister, Julie, and hubby Russ took the usual role of playing the best hostess and host coordinating everyone’s contributions to ensure a full spread.
In an effort to try to convince Uncle Pete to move to Colorado to be closer to the rest of the family, there was a full awesome itinerary, which included seeing Wicked, bowling, the drive-thru “Christmas in Color” display at Red Rocks Amphitheater & celebrating Everett’s 12th birthday. Hopefully he is ready to make a down payment!
Justin & I spent tons of time with our nephews, mainly because they idolize Justin. Everett is in serious training as Justin’s protege—learning how to collect baseball cards which will stay in storage for many years and probably not make the millions you expect.
There wasn’t a ton of time or energy leftover, but we did squeeze in one hike with friends. And I snuck away for an overnight to Rachel’s cabin at 10,000 feet for an in-law getaway.
The family asked us to rank the cats, but there really can’t be a clear winner.

What a great post! The cat postscript had me laughing out loud! You summed up your time in CO perfectly!
Wow I can’t believe my granny bowling stance made it to the blog! It was so nice to have you both here for a long visit. We packed in lots of fun activities. I appreciate your non-biased opinions on the cats because really aren’t all cats the best!?
The clear cat winner is the gray and white one sitting like a human on the nephew’s lap!
Looks like a great getaway! Hope you write about your overnight at the cabin!
