Week 38 of Unemployment
I’m happy to report another busy week between our houseguest, the magazine and my old company. Next week I’m hoping to start on my new project, so it’s looking like it will be fulfilling too. Woo hoo!
I’m happy to report another busy week between our houseguest, the magazine and my old company. Next week I’m hoping to start on my new project, so it’s looking like it will be fulfilling too. Woo hoo!
Today is our first day without a houseguest since Feb. 11. Don’t get me wrong, we love guests, but it’s always nice to have the house back to ourselves. Our latest houseguest was a friend of J’s from the Prep, Chris Farley. He works in a school system and was on break, so came up…
I tried to start a trend this indoor soccer season: wearing a skort to play. But I cannot take the ridicule anymore, so I am officially retiring it. It didn’t bother me when J made fun; he always makes fun of me anyways. He would ask, “Are we playing tennis?” and I would ignore. But…
My dear readers, this week was a good week in terms of my self-employment endeavors. Can you believe I’m saying that? It was, in fact, a busy week! I invoiced 8 hours for my old company, scored another assignment from the magazine AND—yes there’s an and—signed a new contract for a project with an old…
We have wrapped up a wonderful visit with Mama Fashion. She was with us from Friday until her work meeting Wednesday morning in Boston. So let’s review what we did. MamaF gave knitting lessons to her grandkitty. We played two games of Scrabble and J won both times. I still don’t understand how the worst…
Of course I have no job update for you. Looked for work, not much out there, sent my resume to places where I won’t hear anything back, blah, blah, blah, yadda, yadda, yadda. I am so sick of selling myself! But, such is life. This week, we had a friend get into heaps of trouble…
Happy Superbowl! We’re just sitting here watching the game and commercials (disappointing so far, no?) as well as the Black Eyed Peas’ half-time show (Yippeeeee!) on our sweet 13-inch TV. Our 27-incher (which we understand isn’t even that big) finally kicked the bucket for good and we are not in a position to be buying…
I have nothing good to say about my pitiful job search this week, though I did invoice 8 hours of work. Woo hoo. Instead, I will just tell you about the fun stuff that’s going on here! We finished up January, and it turned out to be the 4th snowiest January in Concord since 1870…
Week 34 was really depressing and another roller coaster, but, by now, I’ve had such a fun weekend full of ballroom dancing, swimming and dinner with friends (followed by live pond hockey and a spaghetti benefit dinner for a friend today) that I have pretty much forgotten about it. Still, I owe my readers my…
If we are ever in the woods together, rest assure. I can save you!!! I may not be able to find my way out of the woods, but I can save you … This is thanks to completing a Wilderness First Aid class this weekend. Wilderness First Aid is quite different from regular First Aid.…
Not much to report here. Sent out more resumes to what seems like promising leads, but I think I can already predict the outcome of that! Also heard from the place where I interviewed earlier this month. They are expanding their search and conducting more interviews. I think that means that I’m not getting a…
We are getting pounded with winter weather these past few days. It’s lovely, but not so much for driving. And today J got to pay it forward. Twice. On his drive to work this morning, he saw a car stuck in a snowbank after swerving and hitting a telephone pole. So he pulled over, hooked…
Or as they call it in NH, Civil Rights Day. J had off because it is a state holiday, and we wanted to do something fun. Lucky for him, I have my sweet magazine gig and scored another B&B assignment. This B&B was definitely more our style. Don’t get me wrong, we like all B&Bs,…
This week was a little bit of a roller coaster, but with a good ending. It started off with a ripple in my unemployment. When you file for UE each week, they ask about your job search. I’ve been pretty good about applying for jobs each week, but the week between Christmas and New Year’s,…
We finally got a good, blog-worthy snowstorm here. I was spoiled our first winter here in 2008, when we got a record 120 inches of snow. But, since then, it’s been disappointing (by my standards). Today, though, we got a classic Nor’easter. The kind where the snow blows up, down, sideways, diagonal, backwards … This…
For those of you who have the Nat Geo channel (which I’m assuming includes all of you, except for J & I of course), set your DVR or MP3 or whatever they call it these days for tomorrow night (Tuesday) at 8pm (EST). There’s a new documentary about the AT out and several friends have…
Well hello there! This week marks my 31st week of being unemployed. I have not mentioned being unemployed in the last 3 weeks on this blog and you, my readers, were probably thinking thank the good Lord!!!! But guess what? This just means I have a lot of catching up to do on the subject!…
We left Topeka, Kansas, on Friday morning in an ice storm and 20 degrees. I always hear about “golf-sized hail” on the news and now I got to experience it! Pressing on, we drove 746 miles from Topeka through tornado warnings in Missouri and rain, but much higher temperatures, in Illinois and Indiana to Columbus,…
We have started our trip back east. It’s a little earlier than we originally planned. We were going to do a ski-to-hut trip in the Colorado mountains with SILAdventure, DocDoc and their other friends. It has been planned for months. We would ski 5.8 miles uphill to a hut for New Year’s Eve and New…
